The BJJ App for Competitors — Built for Competitors
Short answer: Mat Quest is an iPhone app for recreational BJJ competitors. It combines a one-tap training log, belt and stripe tracker, tournament countdowns with match results, weight-cut math, technique notes and game plans — wrapped in a 90s arcade fighter skin with an XP ladder and achievements.
Recreational competitors run comp prep out of the Notes app, a calendar, a calorie counter and a paper notebook. None of it knows what a stripe is, when your next tournament starts, or how many pounds you have left to cut. Mat Quest puts it in one app.
What a comp-prep stack actually needs
| Before | Mat Quest |
|---|---|
| Notes app | Training log, technique notes, game plans |
| Google Calendar | Tournament countdowns + calendar view |
| Scale + spreadsheet | Weight-cut math |
| Paper notebook | Session notes + fight record |
| Random screenshots | Belts & stripes, achievements, XP |
Why hobbyists are the most under-served tier of BJJ
Pros have coaches and teams managing the calendar. Recreational competitors have a day job, a few classes a week and a couple of comps a year — and still have to make weight. Mat Quest is built for that person.
